Nobody Never Told Me Nothin!

WHY THE TITLE?

The book, Nobody Never Told Me Nothin’!,  is the story of John Homan and Jim Kennedy  growing up in the 1950’s- at home, in school, in their neighborhoods, and the local hangout, The Recreation Center.  In one sense,  it is an ordinary story about life in the “good old days”,  but it is more than that.  The stories center around the premise  that nobody ever tells you the important things in life.  The authors have to discover this on their own. The book describes the friends they met along the way and the lessons they learned from them.  What are the things that make you happy in life?  For John Homan and Jim Kennedy the answers are recorded in this book.

The Authors talk about cars, the coming of rock and roll, their adventures,  friends,  parents ,  successes and failures.  Stories include the adventures of building The Great Raft, the Paper Mache canoe( that sunk, of course!),  The Cement Fort, the making of “Weapons of Destruction”, the firing of rockets propelled by red lead and powered aluminum, and the emergence of “women” . Women separated them, but they reunited later in life and decided to write a book accounting for their unique adventures .

THE DERIVATION OF THE TITLE:

The title Nobody Never Told Me Nothin’! was a statement made by one of the author’s childhood friends:  Charlie Pulton.  He said these famous words to show his anger against Jim’s decision to pick members for a baseball team. Little did we realize,  that Charlie’s famous line would be the name of the book we were to write as adults.
